Solar quote comparison
Solar costs in NZ.
Compare the full picture.
A useful quote tells you what is included, what could change and what the system is expected to produce. Start with the scope, not just the headline price.
How much does solar cost in New Zealand?
There is no single installed price that fits every property. Panel capacity, inverter choice, roof access, electrical work, connection requirements and optional storage change the total. Energ Link confirms project pricing in a written proposal; the factors below help you compare quotations on the same basis.
What should a solar quote include?
| Part of the quote | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Panels & inverter | Exact models, panel capacity in kW, inverter output and monitoring access. |
| Installation | Roof mounting, access, labour, cable routes and any switchboard work. |
| Grid connection | Application, metering and network charges; who arranges each step. |
| Battery & backup | Usable kWh, power output, compatibility and exactly which circuits have backup. |
| Total price | GST treatment, inclusions, exclusions, variation rules and payment stages. |
| Warranty & support | Product and workmanship terms, claim contact, exclusions and handover documents. |
How should you compare generation estimates?
Ask for monthly as well as annual generation, the assumed shading and orientation, and the portion expected to be used on site. If two quotes use different electricity prices or self-use assumptions, their savings estimates are not directly comparable.
Why is a low headline price not the full comparison?
A quote may leave out access equipment, switchboard changes, metering or a backup circuit. Identify these before accepting an offer. A lower price for a different scope is not necessarily a lower price for the same outcome.
What information helps an assessment?
- Your town or suburb and whether the property is residential or commercial.
- A recent bill and interval usage data where available.
- Roof direction, known shading and any roof work already planned.
- Planned loads such as an EV or heat pump.
- Whether you want storage, backup, or a design that could accommodate them later.
Where can I find independent cost context?
EECA publishes general cost guidance. Treat its examples as context, not an Energ Link price or a guarantee for your property. Your retailer and lines company can clarify connection and export arrangements.
Does Energ Link offer a fixed-price solar package?
This website does not advertise a fixed-price package. Equipment, site requirements, GST treatment and exclusions are confirmed in your written proposal.
Can the savings explorer calculate my payback?
No. It illustrates electricity value using your assumptions and excludes investment costs and other expenses. It does not forecast total bill savings or payback.
